Kenneth Branagh vs. Mary Shelley
Branagh definitly takes a lot of liberties with the storyline on many levels. It is understandable that it is completely impossible to condense a book into a two maybe three hours, but I do believe the highlights of the book being portrayed should be included and not twisted into a new version. The only truth in the movie was Victor's madnass with restoring life from dead body parts.
The mood and tone were captured very well. The suspense would have captured any audience that hadn't read the book. In fact, had I not read the book, I would have been quite happy with the movie. Since I have read the book, I have to say I was very disappointed with how so many things were out of order. Like how did Henry manage to stay alive throughout the whole movie, and Victor wasn't home when his brother was killed.
And for Elizabeth, she never went to the college to see Victor in the book. This really took away from the image that is portrayed in the book on the women characters. All the women in the book have been portrayed as humble, charitable, and always staying close to home.
The movie should have been titled Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein .
